Using fancy fonts on Discord
Since Discord’s 2023 username change, usernames are lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods only. Fancy text now lives in your display name (32 characters), your About Me (190), server nicknames, and channel names.
In messages, Discord markdown beats Unicode: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strike~~ and `code` stay searchable and readable by screen readers. Use Unicode styles where markdown does not work.

Questions
Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Unique usernames only allow lowercase a–z, 0–9, _ and . — fancy text goes in your display name or server nickname instead.
Why did a server reset my nickname?
Many servers use bots that “dehoist” or normalise names with special characters so members can be mentioned and searched. Styled names are allowed by Discord but not by every server.
Do fancy fonts work in channel names?
Text channel names are lowercase and turn spaces into dashes, but Unicode letters and symbols are allowed, which is why many servers use 【】 or ꧁꧂ frames.
