How cursed text works

“Cursed text” is the name people use for text that looks haunted: letters buried under stacks of accents, slashes and flipped look-alikes. Under the hood it is the same trick as Zalgo text — every letter is followed by combining marks from Unicode’s U+0300–U+036F block, and your phone stacks them on top of each other.

Start with the intensity slider low (2–4) if the text has to stay readable in a Discord name or TikTok comment; push it to 10 or more for screenshots and memes. Press “New pattern” to reshuffle the marks without changing the words.

What is cursed text?

Ordinary letters with many combining diacritical marks attached, so they spill above and below the line. It is also called Zalgo, glitch or creepy text. It is plain Unicode, so it pastes anywhere text is accepted.

How do I make my text cursed?

Why does cursed text get cut off in Discord or Instagram?

Apps clip text that overflows its line and some strip long runs of combining marks. Lower the intensity, or turn off “Marks above”, so the marks stay inside the line.

Does cursed text count as more characters?

Yes. Each combining mark is a separate code point, so at intensity 4 one letter can count as about five characters. Check the result in the compatibility checker before pasting into a bio with a limit.

Can I turn cursed text back to normal?

Yes. Paste it into the compatibility checker and press “Make plain”; it strips the combining marks and returns the original letters.
