How backwards text works
Plain backwards text is the simplest trick here: the same letters in reverse order. Because nothing is borrowed from another alphabet, it shows up on every phone and computer and costs no extra characters.
For a real mirror image, the mirror style also swaps letters for flipped look-alikes (ɘ, Я). Upside-down reverses and rotates, so it reads correctly when the screen is turned over.
Styles on this page
- Backwards — Plain letters in reverse order — nothing borrowed, works everywhere. Works almost everywhere
- Mirror — Look-alikes from Cyrillic, Canadian syllabics and more. Hit-and-miss
- Upside down — Borrowed look-alikes, written in reverse. Works on most devices

Questions
How do I write text backwards?
Type it in the box above and copy the Backwards style. The tool reverses the order of every character, including emoji and spaces.
What is the difference between backwards and mirror text?
Backwards text only reverses the order (olleh). Mirror text also flips each letter left-to-right with look-alike characters (ollɘH), like Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks.
Does reversing work with emoji?
Single emoji reverse fine. Combined emoji such as family or skin-tone sequences are made of several characters and may split apart when reversed.
